AJ Howard
AJ Howard is a proven leader in athletic performance, player development, and championship-level coaching, with a track record of helping athletes grow both on and off the field.
A former pitcher at Troy University, AJ was a member of the baseball program from 2007 to 2012 and was part of the 2011 Sun Belt Championship team. His experience competing at the collegiate level, combined with years of coaching and performance training, has given him a strong foundation for developing athletes with discipline, confidence, and purpose.
Following his playing career, AJ built an impressive résumé in coaching and strength development. Over the course of more than 15 years, he has helped lead teams to the playoffs in 13 of 15 seasons, contributed to two state championships at Houston Academy, and played a major role in the development of more than 45 college signees. In 2023, his impact was recognized when he was named AHSAA Assistant Coach of the Year. He later served as Head Coach at Houston Academy in 2024.
In addition to his success on the field, AJ served as Houston Academy’s Head Strength and Conditioning Coach from 2013 to 2025. His work in athletic development has extended beyond baseball, as he has trained athletes across multiple sports and worked as a personal trainer focused on strength, speed, mobility, endurance, and overall performance.
AJ holds a master’s degree in Exercise Science and a bachelor’s degree in Sports and Fitness Management. He is also certified through NSCA as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and through NASM, giving him both the educational background and technical expertise to support athlete development at a high level.
AJ’s combination of coaching experience, strength training knowledge, and commitment to long-term player growth makes him a valuable part of the Gulf South Academy staff.
